pony camp + Benton Rodeo | Equestrian photography

One of the highlights of our summer is when the kids go to Pony Camp. They have a fabulous time riding and taking care of the ponies. I get a kick out of watching them! And we’re lucky to live in a town that hosts a great rodeo every July. The first two nights are free, with lots of locals riding. It’s a great chance to get some fair food and ice cream and enjoy some live entertainment. Tuesday is the Fun Horse Show, which starts out with the timed keyhole event. Saturday is Barrel racing. The rest of the week is for the pros and serious competition. This year I brought my 24-105 mm lens, but wish I had the 100-300 mm or something longer to get closer to the action. Next year. I have fond memories for the “hurry up and wait” days at horse shows and look forward to shooting more competitive riding. Any chance to feast my eyes on beautiful horses!
